Using the internet to job search

Email and the internet can be a pretty faceless place - so these tips will help you work with recruiters, not against them.

Tips and tricks

  • Only apply for jobs that fit your profile accurately
  • When you email the recruiter:
    • Put your name and job reference in the subject line (if the job board allows you)
    • Put your contact details in the body text
    • Include a short description of your main skills in the body
    • Don't forget to attach your CV!
  • When you make contact with the recruiter
    • Remember to ask who the client is
    • If another agency is already working with you for the same role - tell the recruiter
  • Check that the recruiter can work with your CV as it stands
  • Agree a way forward and ask them when to expect feedback

If it's a very appealing role, the recruiter may be inundated with applicants, therefore your job will be to "get in - and get out" with a result. Your result is to close the recruiter to agreeing to put your CV forward to the client.

Good luck!
